Wilderness Water Treatment
There are few places in North America, or around the world, where you can safely drink water straight from a lake or stream. So unless you camp where safe drinking water is readily available, you’d best bring your own. However, at about 8 pounds per gallon, water can be a real drag if you have to carry it for any type of real distance. The alternative is to go light and purify what you need. This also comes in handy when we have to conduct wound cleaning for patients in the austere environments we travel to.
